New and Emerging Technology

iPhone

It is well known that today’s society strives for constant technological improvement in every possible category which starts from mobile phones to computers of a higher class. In today's world we consider our lives meaningless without a computer because it may act as a substitute to our daily activities e.g. grocery / clothing shopping etc. without having to actually leave our desk seat. However, it hasn't been always this way.

In the past years when first Apple computers were introduced to the public in late 1970's by a company established to sell a ready-made personal computers designed and built by Steve Wozniak. The first Apple computers were assembled in the family garage of business partner and friend Steve Jobs. This type of computer is obviously nothing compared to modern ones, but it was a major success in the times it was created.

When time passed new machines and technologies were introduced, obviously far more powerful than Apple 1 computer. In 2007 a piece of equipment called iPhone was released, it was basically a phone, camera, music player and mini gaming console all in one device. Many did not know at a time but it revolutionized the world as we know it. Over the years iPhone evolved and is now widely used throughout the world. The newest iPhone is labeled with a number 5. It has 4 inch retina display and an 8 Megapixel HD camera. There are hundreds of applications available to iPhone which allow users to edit images how they please. In the past, image manipulation was only available to computer systems, but now it changed. Applications such as Instagram, iBooth, Photo Effect Studio, Adobe Photoshop Express and Camera+ are all examples of a small amount of apps that the user can download to his iPhone device. These applications allow the users to manipulate photos by changing the size, colour, contrast, brightness, add different effects etc.

iPad Mini

The iPad Mini is a computer tablet designed by a company called Apple. It’s previous version was the popular iPad. It has a 7.9inch display and it comes with a lot of great applications. The applications are divided into groups, there are approximately 275,000 applications for the user ready to download. The iPad Mini has advanced Wi-Fi which is twice as fast as in any previous version of iPad’s. It allows the access to fast mobile data networks around the world. The extraordinary 5 megapixels video camera allows the user to record in 1080p quality; this is something that not many portable devices can do in today’s world.

Holographic Displays

There are different forms of Holographic Displays; some are closed off with glass and through others you may even put your hand through and manipulate with the image itself. The newest and most advanced Holographic Display today is Microsoft's Vermeer which is in it's early prototype stage. The image is 360 degrees so it can be viewed from any angle as if a real object, except the image has no weight. When finished and publicly available, this will enable graphical designers to display their 3D models in a form of a hologram. Also, using the interactivity, it can enable the user to touch the hologram and interact with it as if the image existed in a physical world.
The video below presents how Microsoft Vermeer Holographic Display works.

3D Printing

3D printing will allow the user to print 3 dimensional replicas of a design. When performing a print, the printer will read the design and lay down layers in order to build the object. These layers are then joined together or fused to create the final object. This advancement in printing technology will allow users such as architects to be able to show their clients exactly what their house or building will look like as they will be able to print any design or shape as a 3D object.
