Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is professional image editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems Inc. Adobe PS is considered to be one of the leaders in photo editing software industry. This photo editing software allows the user to manipulate with digital photos and offers many features that user can pick from to make his image the way he wants it to be, it is only all dependent upon the users skill and knowledge of the actual software. Adobe Photoshop consists of a lot of useful tools that aid the user in designing his/her work. The very basic tool that is being used in Photoshop very often is Move Tool. This tool can be used for moving images around as well as layers of these images. It is possible to select portions or multiple layers which can then be used for a variety of uses. The freehand draw tools are the pencil tool and the brush tool which can be customized to the users preference. The rotate tool is used to rotate layers or parts of layers. The flip tools can flip a layer either horizontally or vertically. The crop tool is used to cut out parts of an image by reducing the dimensions of the image. The group tool is used to filter your work and make it organized when creating lots of different layers. The blur tool blurs the area you are "painting". The tool has a strength setting which is used to define how much blur you want. The sharpen tools is used to make areas of your picture more visible when for example they are blurred out. The invert tool is used to invert the colours of an image.

GIMP

GIMP is a free image editing software that is free to download from the official distributor’s website. It has very similar design and features like Adobe Photoshop and is very user-friendly. GIMP has tools used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, resizing, cropping, photo montages, converting between different image formats etc. 

However, the main tools of GIMP that are worth mentioning are:

- Selection tools  e.g. Rectangle tool which selects square or rectangualr regions




- Brush tools e.g. Pencil, Eraser, Ink, Clone etc.

Pencil tool paints lines and is a tool very similar that can be found in Adobe Photoshop.



Eraser tool basically erases pixels / parts of image from a layer.


The ink tools is a simulation of an ink pen with a controllable nib to paint solid brush strokes. The size, shape and angle of the nib can be customized.


 
Ink clone tool copies pixels from one part of an image to another.



- Transform tools e.g.  Move, Align, Crop, Rotate etc.


Move tool moves layers and selections.




Align tool aligns or arranges layers or other objects.  



Crop tool crops or clips the image decresaing it's size.


Rotate tool can rotate active layer's image. selection or parth.
