Resolution and Colour Depth

Image Resolution
Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. The higher image resolution then the sharper an image will look. An image containing a lot of pixels is known for high quality images but with large file sizes. TIFF images have better image resolution and quality, this is because they support lots of colours like RGB, CMYK which give the image better looking colour and make the resolution of an image larger which affects image size.

Colour depth
A colour depth is used to describe the maximum number of colour that is used in the image. The higher the number of colours in the image then the more realistic it will look. There are different types of colour 256 colour, 32 bit colour and 16 bit colour. The more amount of colours the better the image quality; this is because the image will look more realistic from the colours in the image. So colour depth will also affect file size, the more the colour depth, the larger the file size. This is because the more colours your image consists of then the data stored within that image is particularly larger as oppose to an image with less colours.
